My Go To Green Smoothie

A major key to sustainable weight loss and lasting health is being prepared. In terms of nutrition, one way of being prepared is picking a few healthy meals and having the ingredients on hand and ready to go in a moments notice. For example, one of the healthy meals that I like to have ready to go for my busiest mornings are green smoothies since they are packed full of nutrition, super fast, involve minimal clean up, and I can take them to go.

In order to prepare them in advance, which really is the key here, I get the ingredients, divide them amongst freezable Ziploc bags, and put them in the freezer.

Then, when I’m ready to have one, I simply put 10oz of water in my Vitamix blender (you do not have to have a Vitamix, but I do recommend having a quality, high powered blender), add one scoop of protein, one tablespoon of peanut/almond butter, coconut oil or healthy fat of your choice, one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, and blend until mixed.

Then, add the frozen contents from the Ziploc bag that you already prepared and blend until mixed. This will take about 60 seconds starting on a low speed working your way up as the ingredients start to break down. Once it's smooth, pour it into a cup, rinse your blender out (you’ll regret it if you don’t later), and you’re ready to go!

Ingredients to freeze in advance: 

Makes one green smoothie.

  • 2 cups spinach
  • 1 cup romaine
  • 1 stalk celery
  • ½ banana
  • ½ green apple

Ingredients to add when blending:

  • 10 oz water
  • 1 scoop of protein (I am currently using vanilla Sun Warrior)
  • 1 T fresh lemon juice
  • 1 T peanut butter/coconut oil/healthy fat of choice
