You aren't going to burn quite as many calories running on an elliptical as you will on a treadmill. The muscles in your calves and legs aren't working as hard, so you aren't burning as many calories. That said, half an hour to an hour of cardio every day will significantly change your caloric intake/output ratio. If I had to guess, I'd say the source of your frustration is probably your diet. Your body is recognizing the increased demands that you are placing on it with exercise, and as a result, is making you feel more hungry. It's easy not to notice this increase in hunger even as you eat 500-1000 extra calories every day. Spend a few days keeping track of the amount of calories you eat, and then try and drop that number by 3-500 a day. At this rate, you will see a weight loss of about a pound every week or two, which is an appropriate and healthy rate. Keep up the exercise, as that will help you feel better, and look better when those pounds start to come off. As to your other question, you shouldn't work a muscle group to exhaustion more than once every three or four days. Your muscle development will plateau, and you won't see the same kind of increase in strength. Circuit training plans do not usually work muscle groups to any significant degree, so you should be able to work out on consecutive days. Feel free to change up the order of the exercises in your plan, as long as you do each one and don't take any breaks, you should see the same kind of results. I would recommend taking two or three days off from exercise every week. It gives your body time to recharge and your mind a chance to relax. Best of luck!

I'm sorry we're having the same problem! Hang in there! We'll figure it out. I'd hate to see you lose focus because of a lack of results.... (now if I could just give myself the same pep talk! haha)

it is SOOOOO hard to see results ... but sometimes they show up in ways we don't expect ... my weight isn't really dropping, but my clothes fit way different, and that little (well, big) tube around my waist isn't quite so flabby. And I measure success by no bat wings! Also by not backsliding ... Water really does work wonders ... start off your morning with hot water & lemon (juice, or a slice) ... use boiling water like you would for tea ... a couple of cups of that gets my day started ... and then I don't feel too bad if I don't guzzle bottles all day ...
Good Luck .. DON'T GIVE UP ...

Hey, it depends a lot on what your natural body makeup is. If you've got a flat stomach and a relatively low body fat percentage, then your hips are probably mostly made up of your hip-bones. As far as exercises targeting the hips are concerned, the entire idea of targeting a particular area of the body for fat loss is not realistic. Continue with cardio and watching your diet, and the areas where fat tends to be stored, in your hips, thighs, and triceps area will all gradually reduce themselves. Hope that helps!

Hey! My workouts are going fine. I haven't really changed anything that I'm doing - still the same old. But I finally broke 170 - so that's nice. My clothes reflect more of a change than the scale does - so I'll take it.

Thankyou for the congrats! I've just been running in the park 3 days a week and playing soccer 2 nights a week - and random exercises like pushups, lunges, and crunches every once in awhile. I really think that I started losing weight again because I broke the equilibrium between gaining muscle and those new muscles burning more calories - but who knows really! You're doing great - those ten pounds will come sooner or later.

I've been working out all year - but seriously since the beginning of August. I'm not on a diet or anything - but I try to watch what I eat - or at the very least watch the quantities. No magic here or anything though. Just working out. I'd rather workout hard and not worry about what I eat - because I refuse to be on diet for the rest of my life.

Thanks for your message. I looked up the circuit training workouts, but I'm not sure which one to try.. Which one do you suggest? I'm still trying to figuire this website out and how I plan my workouts and log them. So, how long have you been on FitResolution site? Thanks again, and I appreciate any suggestions and anything to help me get motivated.

Hey, school is definitely stresseful, and I know making a sandwich is so easy, it just consists of me having to run to the grocery store all the time to have fresh vegetables and meats and whatnot. Chicken and cottage cheese sounds good though. Tried working on that today, so far so good! Thanks so much for the advice!

I was impressed, but I did the same thing, a few oreos the day after. Don't feel too guilty, everyone has to splurge occasionally or you'll go insane. How's the weight loss going?? It's been a week and I'm down 2 pounds so I'm happy, so far so good! Too much sitting around though, class is driving me nuts...

I'm so frustrated... I try to get to the gym... it's closed, I come back here (I live with 5 other people, none of which work out regularily or eat well), and the first thing they ask is if I want to order pizza. I said no, but AH, 15 pounds is impossible.. how was it so easy to gain yet this hard to lose???

My solution for not muching on bad stuff - is just not to keep it in the house. That way - if I want it - I have to also want to get in the car and go to the store - and that's usually not worth the effort just to end up feeling bad about giving in. I don't eat any sweets during the week and then on Sunday have icecream night. It keeps me motivated - because I LOVE icecream - and it's a nice treat and I don't feel bad about it. That's all I've got...Good luck!

M is right. I don't eat any sweets during the week. But at the end of the week, if I met my goal for working out I treat myself. It is a reward for having a good week. But also do not be too down on your self for giving in to the craving. We all do it. The trick is to not do it every day.

Yes, I am. I'm the one who writes the guides and e-mails, and communicates with the FitCommunity. I got your message, by the way. We think that the eating plan is an important part of fitness, and we would very much like to add that functionality to the site. That said, it's a complicated thing, and we don't currently have a time-frame for adding it. In the meantime, you could consider creating a team that's focused on eating right, and use that shoutbox and the forums to share plans and ideas.

Hi Borjanap....Basically its the outdoor bleechers like at your local college where football games are played. Alot of steps! You want to use the concreate walkway, not the seats (too dangerous ect) You can start out waliking up and down them -then build your tolerance to run them : ) Its not like jogging or running...you get more of a workout. When you first start, you can expect some pain the next day or 2. I've lost 30 in 5 months! My legs, butt and abs are getting so toned. It's very addicting cardio. C ya.

Hi again! I usually spend 30-45 minutes doing them. I'm taking small 4-5 minute breaks between sets, but usually I'm walking and cooling down at the same time. I like to continually move. So how are your work outs? Have you lost your 10 pounds and toned up yet? ; )

Oh Cool! Your doing alot on a daily basis...I bet weight isn't even an issue for you! Any way I don't mind telling you I was about 190lbs 1 1/2 years ago. First I lost about 15 lbs. just by diet alone. But speed walking and doing the stadium has peeled the weight off of me. It seems that I lose the weight in steps (ha ha get it?) It's like I lose it about 8 lbs at a time (1-2 lbs per week) Then nothing will happen at all weight-wise for 2-3 weeks. Then It repeats the cycle again. Hey I wouldn't worry about what people think if you were to find a place and start doing bleechers/stadium. They will obviously see that your working out. I've gotten many questions and actually have turned people onto the idea. Who knows, you may make a friend who will do it with you which is even better! ; )

Hey! Things are good! I did desperately miss the website - but I kept working out - so that's good I guess. We hosted a Christmas party last night - so it's been hard to justify an hour workout when there was so much that needed to be done. Plus the sun goes down just before 6:00 - so if I don't start running before then - it's kinda creepy at the park... Anyhow. How are you? Did you keep the workouts going?
