Hey there Gwen. I'd be happy to do sme research for you, but I'm afraid I don't know what sjd is. If you could give me the full name, and maybe a link to a good site that describes the condition, I'll see what I can do to help.

Hi Gwen! I'm not sure exactly what SJD is but I'm guessing it's a joint disorder of some sort? Anyway, I myself am quite overweight and one of my favorite exercise styles that isn't high impact is pilates. I have purchased the Winsor Pilates videos and the best thing about them is very early into them I'm already sweating. They have an upper body video that may be a good place to start. They also have quite a few variations as you go along for the people who may not be able to do it a certain way. It was the only exercise that I could think of that has some decent cardio effects and that is ultra low impact on the knees. Avoid the few exercises that do involve kneeling and I think you'd be okay. If you are looking for something that is virtually free of cost the only other thing I could think of is filling some gallon jugs with water and using those as weights (saw it on an exercise tv program). If you are able to use your legs a bit, but are not able to push down with them, I would suggest biking. They now have mini bikes that you can buy and use from your sofa. They run between 50 - 100 dollars. Remember to start slow, give yourself reachable goals and set new challenges every week. I hope this helps!

Hey gwen,

It's been a while, just wanted to drop you a line and see how you were doing. I'm back working on the site again, hopefully fixed a few things. Let me know if you could use any help!
